Look of the week & Style Salvage interview

Image from Stil in Berlin

Really like this look, quite simple and relaxed with added interest from the wide neckline, safety pin and unusual sandals. This is quite similar to my style right now.

To celebrate the 2nd birthday of menswear blog Style Salvage, Izzy from The Dandy Project has interviewed the two founders, Steve and EJ. Style Salvage have turned into some what menswear blogging royalty over the past two years and Izzy of The Dandy Project has delved beyond the surface of the blog and asked about their success, inspiration and much more.

Yves Saint Lauren Spring 2010

This collection really caught my eye when I was looking through the catwalk shows from Spring collections this week. I love the playfulness of the proportions and shapes of the outerwear and trousers mixed with the variety in shades of greys and blacks. The unexpected use of sandals with socks is not uncommon but for me this really bumps up the all round classiness of a somewhat flawless collection. Nice one.

Super Bowl

Ah the beautiful Peggy Moffitt, my favourite "swinging 60s" model. How ahead of the time was this hair cut with. The bowl cut pops up from time to time, mostly in fashion circles (or pre 10 years of age at school).

Jil Sander Spring 2010 (images from men.style.com)

Bowl cuts a plenty featured in Jil Sander's 2010 collection, i don't think anyone can argue with Raf Simons, does he ever get it wrong. Are we seeing another micro-trend here? The fashion world does seen surges from times to time, what with YSL's cut from a few seasons ago and even the New York clubkids The Misshapes, but the the Jil Sander models are sporting a much more smarter look.

I'll leave you with this image of The Beatles.

Alice in Wonderland

From Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which is expected to be released early 2010. And don't Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter just look a treat, this doesn't stop me from finding her attractive either. What's wrong with me! I'm sure the film will be as weird and wonderful as Burton's other films.

yayeveryday.com

Clare from Tweet linked me to yeyeveryday.com the other day. What a find it was too, the concept of the site is basically a forum where you upload your work, something that inspires you or just something that tickles your fancy. There's some really great stuff on there, from fine art, music videos, surrealism, photography, adverts or just silly stuff. Here's some bits that caught my eye.

If you get chance check it out, there really is something for everyone.

In with the old

Jimmy Choo x H & M

This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores. The collection will be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world. It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand, and to celebrate Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision for this collection to women’s clothing to complement the accessories. Further exciting news is that this collaboration includes a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

“We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion savvy, street smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too. Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection - the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!” Tamara Mellon, Founder and President, Jimmy Choo.

“We adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags. They are glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because it’s our first shoe designer collection. It’s a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers.” Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor, H&M.

Since its launch in 1996, Jimmy Choo has been such a phenomenal success that the brand name has become part of popular culture - say the words “Jimmy Choo”, and you know you mean shoes. In Hollywood, Jimmy Choo shoes have become a red-carpet essential, and have been worn at the Oscars by winners such as Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank among many other actresses. The famous Jimmy Choo shoes will be at the heart of the exclusive collection for H&M, but there’s more. Jimmy Choo has also become well known for its bags, and for H&M there will be a whole range of accessories to complete the look.

On the house

At American Apparel. Go ahead, why not.

Quite a slow week coming up, with minimal plans. Me and Hollie are going to a uni art exhibition, might pop to Manchester to see if I can find anything for next month's 1950s party and cocktails are on the cards for Thursday night.

Also, I want to do something interesting to my hair, it's already quite short but it is no way near exciting enough.

Think tank for summer

Whilst a busy morning of paint the wall in the back garden, in the uncharacteristically hot English weather I got to thinking about what I will be wearing for work this coming week and for our short trip to London (which will hopefully be in July but we haven't booked yet.

Another thing which spurred this into my head was a link to an article about the rise in chinos, on men and women which Style Salvage posted on their Twitter this morning. Click here for the article, it documents 10 people who walked through the doors at London's bStore and posing the question, "are they the new jean?". I pretty much think they are, especially for the warmer months. I currently own a dark navy/charcoal pair and a beige pair.

This was my favourite look for the 10magazine selection, mostly because this is similar to how I would wear my beige pair. Wicked boots too.

Purple chinos from ASOS

I've been wanting to try something a bit more adventurous in the trouser department for the summer, I stumbled across this purple pair from ASOS. I just can't help think they would look much better if the shade of purple was a touch darker.

Mint green chinos by Acne, from ASOS

This shade of green is very much to my liking but sadly out of my budget, though to do kind of look for like light fabric jeans rather than a trouser.

My two current pairs, ASOS(left), H&M(right)

So chinos will undoubtedly be the choice of the summer for me but what is my shoe of choice to go with them?

If it's raining (theres a good chance in that happening!):

l-r ASOS brown boots, Clarks Desert boots, Dr Martens

And if it's sunny, fingers crossed:

l-r Spencer Jones boat shoes, Hudson patent tassel loafers, Vans

What are your summer essentials?
