I popped all the way over to the other side of the office where I work to check out Stone-Dri's offerings for this year's Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter seasons. The Manchester based menswear brand who specialise in outerwear have been making some nice pieces since their comeback last year. Stone-Dri were pretty big players in the menswear market back in the 1950s, specialising technical outerwear, usually in waterproof and protective fabrics.

Above are a few pieces that caught my eye, as always with menswear it's all in the detail. The green and olive tweed 3-pocket jacket was the standout, which is based on one of their original models. Both of this year's collections are on solid and functional pieces which can easily slot into any chap's wardrobe without making too much noise. Other than jackets there's cord shirts, contrast pocket t-shirts, buttoned sweatshirts and some nice heavy knits. All manufactured within the walls of Greater Manchester, winner.

It's Togs & Clogs back again with some cracking products. If you have been reading my blog for a while you may remember me featuring the Manchester based online store, in a post last October. The store has been open a good few month now and they have some fresh stock in so I thought I'd pick out a few bits for you. As I mentioned last time it's not just the products that appeal to me, it's the way they are shot. Clear and simple is all we really need isn't it? The iPad sleeve is pretty interesting, they've collaborated with A Few Fine Things for this one, using a really nice green tweed and with brown leather edges. They have four different styles of iPad sleeves and they're made in Manchester, England none the less.

Togs & Clogs are also currently running a competition through their Facebook page to win £500 worth of Humor clothing. All you have to do is "like" them and click comps on the left hand side. You've got till this Sunday to enter.

I've been a bit slow with the gift posts that I promised so lets get right back to it. This guy is by far one of my favourite presents I recieved for Christmas, again from Hollie. It's basically an educational toy which helps you learn which body parts go where. When your done "Bones" can sit somewhere in your house looking super cool. She picked it up in Muji after me raving about it a couple of months ago, they really do have some cracking gifts these days. I spotted indoor footballs, solar system puzzles, wooden skyscraper blocks, pocket survival kits....you get the idea, it's basically my current favourite shop.

So here's how Bones works -

Inspiration - Ikea Kitchen by Carl Kleiner

One of my favourite posts I've ever done was on Carl Kleiner, back in August '11, so I was pretty pleased when I heard he's be working on a new project. The photographer, along with stylist Evelina Kleiner (they must have got married since I last blogged about them, excellent!) really do have some brilliantly creative ideas and their latest effort really does get the excitement veins a-popping. Above is the second time Kleiner has worked with Ikea, the first was for their successful cookery book Home is Best. This time around he concentrated on Kitchenware, with pretty effective results. Now these photos tick three boxes for me, my love of homeware/designy stuff in general, cooking and of course OCD heaven, Things Organized Neatly.

Tidy house tidy mind, well here's to wishful thinking.

Thought I'd Give It A Go

Made in USA Dockers with Unqilo shirt & Vans, couple of quality geetars, Victorinox Army knife which is hands down one of my favourite Christmas gifts, Mr. Cooper's very tasty marmalade, Wigwam socks & boots, Monday morning was heavy on the layering, Morris the Mule memo dude sits pride of place on my desk.

Instagram that is. I've only just got a smart phone so this stuff is new to me. Not sure if I'll blog like this again or I'll keep it confined to the occasional Twitter share but it's worth a go. These are all from this week. I'm still messing about with the effects, so most of these do look pretty different.

What do you think, I don't think it will be a weekly thing anyway.

Ontour A/W 2012

Ontour, not a brand I have ever heard of but their lookbook for this coming A/W (sheesh I know, we are still in the last one) had some pretty cool ideas going on. Their garb seems pretty cool but it wasn't that in particular that I wanted to share, it was the accompanying tied up images.

I really like the way they have used an entire outfit and well..... tied it all up. For me this is more exciting that the outfit shots but purely from a visual point of view. Obviously you don't get a feel for how stuff fits when it's all restricted but it made me curious about the brand, which made me want to know more. Their plan worked!

The brand was founded in The Neverlands, 2005. Each season they base their collection on a particular journey (hence Ontour ay). A/W's effort is entitled "On the Rocks" and from the images I'm guessing it's a nod to rambling and camping out, which is where the rope motif comes in. Their previous collection was based on protesters and activists, which again has some really cool images too.

Lately I have been taking extra noticed to where things are made. To know this bit of extra information reassures me to some extent and instantly puts thoughts into my mind about who might have made them, the type of factory they were conceived in and what type of machinery might have been involved. I'm one of those people that always checks labels before buying stuff in shops, checking out the fabric is a big thing for me, but now I might be adding another one to the list. I don't think it's going to stop me from buying something but to know a little bit more about what you are spending you money on makes it more satisfying, in my opinion.

I'm going to split this post up into a 2-parter bumper edition so this post doesn't turn too picture heavy. I've got some more interesting stuff to share.

Revisiting Saddle Shoes

Whilst most of us have been taking advantage of the major sales pre and post Christmas I made a pact with myself. Instead of rushing out to see what bargains I could snap up, I'd take a look through my own wardrobe and see which items I tend to neglect. We all have tones of stuff we don't seem to get round to wearing, either from buying stuff on a whim or saving it for a certain occasion. So my idea was to get out all the stuff that isn't in rotation and get wearing it! Simple as that really, I must have liked something about the item in the first place to buy it. So while money is tight I'll go back to these items, assess if they still work for me and get wearing them, if not then do I really need replace it or can I do without?

Something that falls into this category and certainly doesn't need getting rid of or replacing is these YMC grey and black suede saddle shoes, that I picked up in the 2010 winter sale for 70% off. They're surprisingly easy to wear and go most of the stuff I own.

Don't get me wrong I have bought a few bits and bobs in the sale (namely socks, desert boots and a couple of t shirts) but I will be thinking twice about if I really need something. When I do go shopping I may buy something little but I don't tend to buy a higher price point item just out of the blue. Luckily I enjoy the whole shopping experience so browsing is usually good enough for me. It's all relative really isn't it, while I don't have a full time job then this is that way it has to be.

Advertising - The Literal Approach

It's taken something from 1936 to properly wow me on a somewhat mediocre Tuesday afternoon. This nice bit of creative marketing is from the Coats Coats Coat store of Copenhagen, Denmark. When the proprietor realised he was well over-stocked on winter coats he adopted pretty crazy tactics to get rid of them. The owner covered the whole of the outside of the shop's building with scaffolding and then covered that with more than a thousand overcoats.

What better way to make the most of overstocking! This bit of entrepreneurship didn't go unnoticed, it attracted attention from the police and he was ordered to removed the display. The good news though, he did end up shifting all the overcoats.

Can you believe this was going on in 1936? It's pretty ace though, couldn't be more in your face.

Mr Natty's Master Barbering at Albam

I wish I was half as manly as Barbering guru Mr Natty, but hopefully that will come with age. Ever since I discovered Backyard Bill a couple of years ago (Clare from Tweet knew I would love it, she was the one who tipped me off) it's been a great source of inspiration for me. I referred to the blog on several occasions throughout various uni projects. The imagery and mini profiles are just top notch. Featured here are some ace photos of Mr Natty from Backyard Bill that I have had saved for a few weeks, he's basically my style icon at the mo. He's got that old time charm and style to a tee.

Mr Natty can currently be found traveling around Albam stores across the UK where you can get a hair cut, Indian head massage and your beard sorted out or a wet shave for £35. He'll even through in a pot of tea and a slice of his lady wife's homemade cake while you wait. If I had hair I'd be tracking him down, in my case I've just got a medium sized beard.

Advertising - HSBC's Latest Campaign

Following on from the toothpaste first I think we've got another one, a post about a bank! As always, interesting and clever stuff comes from anywhere so today I'm sharing HSBC's latest campaign with you. I was drawn to these ads as the idea is very similar to a few campaigns I did whilst I was on my Fashion Promotion degree. The idea behind these sorts of ads is to create an image and strap line which usually have multiple meanings. It's quite a simple idea but these are the sort of ads that really catch my attention, something with a meaningful message but are done with a big of humor.

I guess it took me back to why 2011 was such a great year for me. To graduate was the biggest achievement of my life, really something I will never forget. Boy was it a tough 4 years but it changed me. My professional attitude, ideas and skills all came on leaps and bounds. It may have been expensive but for what, the best 4 years of my life? Surely that makes it worth it.

I'm setting a few goals this year, to pass my driving test, find a full time job (and move away) and properly start my career. As well as the big 2 I am planning on widening my cooking skills, staying in good health and keep up with the old blogging! What are your big goals?

Gift #1 - Euthymol

A whole post just about toothpaste? Well sure, here we go! My friends & family seemingly know me pretty well as I got some real corkers this Christmas. So I thought I'd show you some of them over the next couple of weeks. As you guys will know I'm really into design and all things well made. Look what was under the tree, some Euthymol toothpaste! Everytime I see this I want to buy it, just for the old time packaging alone. I've heard quite a bit about this stuff, it was pretty popular in Scotland in the 50s/60s and the majority hated it's medicated taste. It actually smells really similar to the rootbeer I buy in America but it does taste pretty ropey. Let's just say it's not an everyday one, it burns the mouth something rotten.

Have you guys seen any nicely packaged stuff of late or received any for Christmas?

This blog post is actually my 500th, which just seems totally mad to me. I've had so much fun since I started the blog early 2008. It's helped me improve my writing skills, discover new brands, build relationships and help me realise the sort of things I really love in life. It's been a pleasure being able to share these things with you, and I'm very humbled that you guys seem to like and share some of my passion too. The most rewarding part has been making friendships with people that without my blog I would have never been able to. Here's so 2012 being even better for us all.

I just want to say a massive thank you to all of you, I visit as many blogs as possible in my down time and I will keep doing so. Blogging is a massive part of our lives now, so lets celebrate it!

An Analog Christmas

I was doing some Christmas shopping with Hollie in Manchester yesterday and we were both surprised and quite excited to discover that a Lomography shop has opened on Oldam St. We popped in for a browse and it instantly took us back to our college days and when we first met, all those years ago. It was a lovely feeling just to wonder about, looking at all the advances, since I'd last been into the shop just off Caraby St. The shop itself is really well thought out and just puts you in a good mood, as you won't find anything boring insight. What I did notice was that they used negative space really well, when you lift a camera from its holder you are left with a blurb about the item in its place. Neat idea.

The store is so new that you can still smell the paint. Above is the wicked Christmas window display which they said took them ages to get just right. This has definitely spurred me on to whip my old analog out this Christmas.

Inspiration - Penique Productions' Inflatables

There's nothing like a blast of colour to brighten up our gloomy December days. We're all familiar with balloons and we are with rooms too, so Penique Productions combined the two to create something which is pretty eye-catching. The idea behind the project was to take coloured inflatables and fill up spaces which other people have created, making a new environment altogether. By filling each space with a different coloured inflatable it lets the viewer see the room in a whole new way, creating new shapes and points of interest but also making each space seem very similar (even though one could be a flat in Nottingham and the other a church in Madrid) to one another.

The guys behind the project have been traveling around Europe to find interesting locations for their on-going project, and it seems the inflatables can be adapted to work anywhere. They have even done a room which housed a fashion show. It's quite hard to describe but when I saw these I thought of urban exploration. Not that they are very similar but seeing the spaces in totally different way to what they were built must be a really exhilarating experience.

Blown Away

What a weird week. Normal proceedings have totally been put on hold as the weather took a turn for the worse. Anyone in the UK will know what I'm talking about. Up to 90mph winds became the norm for each day and the whole island got every other weather condition (other than the hot stuff) you can think of thrown at us.

So because of this I couldn't take the photos I had planned, outside was a no-go and I did try inside but it was just too gloomy. The competition I had planned for this week will hopefully go ahead next week now, because of this. As soon as we're due a bit of clear weather I'll be grabbing my slr as quick as poss.

It's been a slow news week overall, other than I've taken on another part time job as a class room assistant at the university I went to. I'll be helping out in the first year class with a few bits and bobs, sporadic hours but it keeps me creative. So that's 3 part time jobs now, still not equalling a full time wage but you have to start somewhere!

Above are a couple of images I haven't posted before which are reminding me how much more I prefer Autumn to Winter. The North Pier, the oldest in Blackpool, built 1863 and my square face Muji watch worn with bottle green jumper and wool jacket. Have a lovely weekend.

Advertising - NTF Vast's Driving Ads

I think these ads by NTF Vast really do hit a nerve. Created for the Swedish National Society for Road Safety, they struck a chord with me, on another level to maybe what they may usually do. I've been learning to drive for about a month now and I've had my head stuck in the highway code in between some freelance design work.

This campaign reaches out using modern technology mixed with hard hitting data, to inform the audience just how dangerous being on the phone while driving is. I don't usually go down the serious route on here but with Christmas coming things like this couldn't be more important. Drive safely people.

Since Steve from Style Salvage has been posting loads of British factories I now seem to be obsessed with looking at where everything is made. I picked up this tweed suit in a charity shop for £2 and I finally got round to wearing it this week.

I helped out on a photo shoot at an independent hardware store on Thursday, it was a very charming place but so so cold. I amused myself by wondering around the machinery and wood sections. The situation required comfort so the New Balance 410s stepped in.

Wall to Wall By Converse in Manchester

On my normal Monday walk to work I was stopped dead in my tracks when I was faced with this huge piece of street art, which covers one side of a 5-floor building. I did a bit of research and it turns out the painting was created by street artist Faunagraphic, for Converse's Wall to Wall project. The idea behind Wall to Wall is to merge some of the top street artists with walls in Europe's most popular cities. Wall to Wall has already ventured to Antwerp, Lyon, Ghent, Barcelona and Naples. Bringing art to the streets, on a large scale.

So now you can see it for yourselves, before it's gone. If you live close get yourself down to the Northern Quarter in Manchester. I won't tell you the specific location though, cos that would spoil the fun wouldn't it?

Advertising - Amtrak Wi-Fi Ads

I really liked these Amtrak adverts promoting their onboard wi-fi, for their trains. It's something that is usually promoted in a mundane way or not at all, but how important is wi-fi these days? You may as well show it off in a creative and most importantly engaging way. It's a super simple idea and what I really like is that they have clearly been inspired by old Art Deco travel advertising and have mixing it with modern technology. Each ad in the series uses a quality which is associated with the destination, I wouldn't mind doing one of these for the Blackpool Tower!

I might make this advertising thing a bit of a Sunday feature actually, it's quite a nice way to start off the week. Image source

Murdock London Travels North & Competition

Northern News Alert! Barbers and Gent's Grooming specialists Murdock London are venturing up to the north of England. Murdock's products were exclusively sold from their super cool stores (and some concessions) dotted around London but now the stylish chaps of the north can get a look in. Their kit is being sold through John Lewis stores in Liverpool, Cheadle (Greater Manchester), Newcastle and not strictly the north but Nottingham as well.

As I'm based up north (Blackpool to be exact) they sent me a couple of their most popular products to test drive. The Avalon British cologne and candle to be more precise. I have the say the cologne is like no other aftershave I've really ever used, it's fresh, citrusy and smells like you've just been given a wet shave from a guy in a white vest and braces. I've worn it tones already and had quite a few compliments.

As with anything for me the packaging and presentation matters a great deal. It's simple stuff really, nice traditionally shaped bottle and charming label. Lets just say the guys on the Young Apprentice could learn a lot from this!

Competition -

As for the candle I'm going to let one of you guys have it. I'm not one for candles but it smells just as good as the cologne (and me). You can find out a few more deets about it here but just of the top of my head, "Notes of Sicilian bergamot, Calabrian lemons and hand picked lavender from the fields of Haute Provence, whisk you away to cocktail hour on the Grand Tour, with a fresh modern twist"....comes to mind!

I reckon this would be a pretty wicked gift for any chaps but for women too, as it's not overly manly. Or you can just have it for yourself? So if you fancy a free Christmas gift or a treat for yourself just comment on this post saying that you want it. That's it, no nonsense, just a comment.

Inspiration - Bernhard Lang's Aerial Views

With all the different types of media we're exposed to each day it's progressively taking more and more to properly grab my attention. I'm not saying I don't find a lot of inspiring things, of course I do but sometimes it takes something coming from a slightly different angle or perspective to stop me in my tracks. Bernhard Lang's Aerial Views project made me turn my music off and demanded my full attention.

I love it when this happens, it's basically my brain's way of saying "you should check this out, you'll really like it". The German born photography, Bernhard Land has spent the last couple of years traveling the world to find perfect locations to capture these really unique aerial images. I came across his work via the Coggles Sunday email where the top images was shown, quickly I found his Behance profile and then onto his own website. I was truly blown away by his work, there's a playful, surreal and slightly animated (reminded me of a stop motion project about the seaside, really can't remember who it's by though sadly) feel to them.

Cos Stone Cold Said So

I stopped these in the Harvey Nics pop-up food market at The Trafford Centre last night. There's tones of fun stuff in there, loads of creative, eye-catching, bizarrely named and well packaged stuff going on. Very tempting and tasty sounding though. Not sure how long the market is open for but it's worth a visit if you're in into locally produced and well packaged bits and bobs.

Now, don't make me open a can of whoop ass.

Clean Everything

It's getting towards that time of year again when I'm starting the think about Christmas gifts for the friends and fam. I've already bought a couple of small things and I know if I leave it too late I'll end up stressing myself out and just asking people what they would like, which we all know is no fun. Call this a "gifts ideas" post if you will. I freaking love wallets, it's one of those items that I head for first when I go in a shop. Partly because they're usually attainable in terms of price and the other is that I use a wallet every single day of the year. So for me a decent wallet makes the perfect present for a chap.

Clean Everything are a new brand to me, and they're starting off with some big guns. Above is their minimalist vegetable-tanned leather wallet, hand-cut from one single piece of premium leather. I like the fact it doesn't have any stitching on the outer and is held together with a single large gold button, plus the name is pretty cool too. I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you my wallet collection

From top to bottom:

- Calvin Klein card/coin holder. Bought this on a whim in an outlet. The zip totally broke after a week, it was only cheap but it's a pile of crap. It now holds business cards.

- Topman Premium leather dogtooth zip wallet. I've used this solid for 2 years and it's still in brilliant nic. 100% leather and only cost me £7 so it's probably one of my best buys to date. Features a nice red and white candy stripe inside.

- Comme des Garcons leather bright blue zip wallet. I won this in a competition last summer. Works pretty similar to the Topman wallet although it's more delicate and it's a finer leather. Still great though, I use this one for more fancy times. Fits in the back pocket perfectly and has a bit of wow factor, but I do wish it had a proper lining.

- Marks & Spencer's tan leather wallet. I've had this one for about 5 years now and it's been a right treat for £22. Has a million or so compartments/zips/spaces and the leather has worn really nicely. Used this solid for a few years but the only objection is that it doesn't fit in your back pocket so well. I mean it does, but you're not going to have a lot of fun sitting down on it.

Blackpool's Comedy Carpet

Blackpool's Comedy Carpet covers a 1880 square-feet of the promenade and immortilises around 1000 comedian's and writer's famous catchphrases and quotes.

The project has been 4 years in the making and was artist Gordan Young's vision to create something totally unique for Blackpool, with its rich entertainment history. The permeant installation is made up of 160,000 individually cut letters made from granite and concreate. It's a stroke of genius and has such high impact in real life. Above mages from here

The Comedy Carpet is located on Central promenade, directly opposite Blackpool Tower, if you look carefully you can see people on the newly unveiled glass walkway. The whole thing money well spent in my eyes. Blackpool isn't an arty town so when we do get something really special like this we should really treasure it.

If you spin 180 degrees you are now presented with amazing views out to the Irish Sea, the whole area has recently been regenerated and is now open plan, which makes for some amazing views.

This really has been the first time in a long time that I'm proud of my hometown. If you guys are ever in the North West of England I urge you to come check it out, you will be there for hours trying to spot some comedy gold.

Inspiration: Max de Esteban's Proposition One

Evening all. This is technically a re-blog but I came across these x-rays by photographer Max de Esteban over on Selectism this afternoon. They got me pretty excited and my first instinct was, "I have to blog about this". He used an x-ray technique to create them, using various types of electronics as the subject. The idea behind the series is, "the consequences of today’s accelerated embracement of new technologies and formats in the art practice". I can appreciate the meaning behind these and it got me thinking just how quick the turnover is on the newest gadget, which then quickly becomes old hat. I tend to hang onto old electronics, probably because I hoard these things like many of us do but also because of a memory it might evoke or just as simple as it being someone's interesting design decision.

It also made me want to whack out my film camera, which I know I neglect. Is this ringing any bells, which products do you tend to neglect?

Trainer Issues - Sports vs Casual

Sports - Nike Air Vengeance Vintage. Reissue of the purple and pink nylon/suede upper with vintage treatment soles, 1985 running trainer. It's a case of so ugly I love them, mad as a box of snakes these ones.

New Balance 420. Cira 1980s classic running trainer. In royal blue, grey and white nylon/suede mix. I can't fault New Balance for comfort, design and general understated coolness.

Nike Elite Vintage Size? Exclusive. Red and navy nylon/suede upper and original waffle soles straight from the year of 1976. Look pretty slick and streamline. Takes me back to the days of my first job in a sports shop when I was 16.

Casual - Adidas Originals Gazelle Indoor. Modern update of the late 1960s indoor classic. Featuring half translucent sole in forest green, white and gum. The classic terrance trainer gone uber-mod. I was given a similar pair about 7 year ago for they bought the wrong size! Doy.

Converse Star Player. Natty alternative to the classic. Mixe the Allstar with the Onestar and this is your outcome, with suede upper, extra padding and premium trims. My favourite comes in navy, ecru and grey. Slick as Rick but not too different from my usual sneaks.

Nike Blazer Low Vintage. The trendy option, minus the high top upper. Again a suede upper in copper, white and vintage treatment soles. I had a similar grey pair when I was about 15, the got totally trashed from playing football but they lasted like no other. Maybe a bit too "cool" for me? The colour is pretty appealing to me though.

So I'm trying to make the decision on a new pair of trainers, and I want you guys to help me. I'm trying to make up my mind - Sports vs. Casual. I have a handful of trainers already, a mixture of both styles, I wear them for the gym and on an every day basis. Currently my favs are a pair of blue and orange nylon New Balance 410 which I wear to the gym every week and occasionally out & about. Comfort is key but I like a bit of a nostalgia too so I don't want anything too trendy. I turned to one of my favorite trainer store on the high street Size for a bit of inspiration. If you're in the market for a new pair of trainers you can't go far wrong with Size.co.uk, have you checked their selection out lately? The pages seems to scroll on for ever!

Here's where you can help. I like a good ol' nostalgic design and splashes of colour, comfort is always important and I don't mind a bit of the ugly factor. Which ones do you like (or hate too, I really don't mind) and why? Also which ones can you see me in? I'll be really interested to hear your opinions on this one.

Dodgers t-shirt, Old Navy. I always seem to watch a lot of baseball while I'm across the pond, so I'm celebrating this fact with a team jersey.

Koto triangle patterned shirt, Urban Outfitters US. Another Florida purchase, I know nothing about the brand but I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it. Apart from the top pattern it's full of little details, the top button is smaller than the rest, triple stitched cuffs and cream brand tag on the side hem. Reminded me of the Folk Archive shirt.

Levis 511's. I can't believe to mark up us guys have to pay for Levi's stuff, I picked these up in a outlet (again in Flozza, sorry to keep going on about it) for $38. I did a bit of research and these cost about £75 here. I'm pretty obsessed with Levi's and their history right now. You should check out there new LVC site if you're into that sort of stuff, Hollie was really struck by the photos and details.

Short Leave wool jacket, Urban Outfitters UK. This one is my most recent purchase, you might remember that I was invited to an Urban Outfitters menswear press day a couple of weeks back. Well Shore Leave is Urban Outfitters own brand for Europe, their outerwear seems really good quality and I haven't taken this off much since I got it. Bonus that it has brown football buttons. The tweediness looks good with everything.

Last but not least, Vans 106 via Clare from Tweet @ All Sole. 5 years down the line my Authentics have because extremely tired looking. The plus side of whacking them in the washing machine every month is that they have slowly became a super pale shade of blue and don't stink(come on people, no excuses for smelly trainers). But saying that when Clare said she'd send me a new pair over I was hardly going to refuse. Cheers Tweet.

Currently lots of stores with online presence are flipping things around and doing their own in-house lookbooks to showcase their offerings. It's a winning formula and something which makes total sense, show your best stuff off to the world in a way other than using static images. You never really get a proper feel for the fit and style of the products. Oi Polloi have a lot to answer for, with the ever popular Deck Out, even giving characters and narratives to each look. But today I'm concentrating on Goodhood's collection, called Nevermind. The East London indi retailer is a store I'm only familiar with in the online world as I've never been to the physical store(though I did live 1 tube stop away a couple of winter's ago), but it's this sort of stuff that really draws me in. I'm a sucker for colours and patterns, as you all know. From the title and first images you instantly make the assumption that it's all inspired by Nirvana's 1991 romper stomper but I would say it's more just taking bits and bats from the early to mid 90s in general.

The top image is clearly inspired by Kurt's signature look(though he would have been in Converse One Stars for sure) and some bits looks like they came from the My So-Called Life wardrobe. There's a nod to BritPop with sloppy cardigans worn with stripes, loose chinos with flannel and high on the head woolies with technical outerwear with skateboard shoes.

The whole thing is making me want to dust off my Blur and Weezer albums again. Goodhood seems to mix sort-after premium brands with uber-cool cult and streetwear really well, it's not how I would normally wear things but it's acting and a great source of inspiration on these bleak grey days up north.

Burt's Bees farmers Hand Salve -

Anyone who suffers when it starts to get a bit chilly out should really give this ago, seriously good stuff. Has the added bonus of a nice medicated smell and a fella with a beard on the front. It doesn't work like a regular moisturier, it's think as anything and works instantly. Especially good for thumbs.

Ralph Lauren Double Black -

If I'm honest I really wanted the regular Polo Black version but I picked this up in Orlando for a good price. It smells quite coconuty and is extremely subtle. The matte bottle has minimal branding, you will only see a small logo on the cap. It does seem to fade after a few hours on me but you do get a waff every now and again.

J.R Watkins Lavender Hand Soup -

Granted I did only buy this for the packaging alone, I was intrigued as well as pretty excited to see some ol' time branding. J.R. Watkins have been producing natural products since 1868 and this is one of the oldest recipes. As well as stuff for your person they do a tone of charming cleaning products too. This was another Orlando pick up. Sadly it doesn't look like they ship to Europe.

Just a few things which are ingrained into my daily routine at the moment, oh and crumpets but we all know what they look like now don't we.

Guys, I know you're as excited as I am about this news, it's been all over Twitter. I have a new pen, to be fair though it's a pretty nice one and it makes a change from the usual ever-breakable Bic Biro (though I still like them really). I chose a Lamy Safari rollerball in yellow. Design by Wolfgang Fabian in Germany, I think you're getting something pretty well made in terms of design, durability and function for under a 10er. It's safe to say I won't be lending this one out willy-nilly, cos they never come back do they?

Red Trouser Issues

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Voucher Codes to help them bring impartial reviews for their Lifestyle magazine, Most Wanted. I've seen a couple of these types of "tried & tested" posts before, namley on Wolf Whistle and Jazz Pad. The idea is to get a handful of bloggers to review products from a few various retailers and basically see which are the best. So what did I get? Red trousers......when I first heard that I just thought "gees, am I 19 again" (nu-rave anyone) and it was sounding far less appealing.

But the whole idea was to give impartial views so I really had nothing to loose. My chosen retailer was Next, and the product was a pair of slim fit dusty red chinos. I ripped them out the bag one day after work and I was surprised to be actually warming to the idea, for the fact a) they they weren't bright red, b) they weren't tight & c) they were made from washed out soft cotton. So I gave them a go;

Up to now I've worn them 3 times. First time I just popped out for a coffee and it hit me why I liked them more than I expected, it's because the fella from Bargain Hunt, Tim Wannacott, wears some in a very similar colour! And he of course is one of my style icons. The chinos actually seem to fit into my wardrobe pretty easily, sticking them with a grey or blue oxford shirt and brogues or sneaks works pretty easily. In general the fit is quite relaxed, slim in the leg and tapering down to a 7"ish leg opening, which suits me fine. Plenty of room to move. To be honest the colour and fit reminds me more of Albam that a high street brand.

They retail at £38 which at first I thought was a bit pricey for the high street (just comparing quickly to Topman, River Island, Zara ect) but they do actually fit me really well and feel nice. They're advertised as "fits low on the waist" but they really don't, coming in a bit higher than the regular rise, which, always a good thing.

You're also getting something pretty well made for the price, here's some closer details;

Metal rivets and buttons, big improvement on the crummy plastic white ones you from most stores

Double pocket stitch detail on both sides, with the added bonus of a small "3rd" pocket on the left

Hopefully you can get a proper idea of the colour here, like a soft worn out red. Triple stitch detail around the waistband is a really cool touch too.

Urban Outfitters Menswear Press Day

I was thrilled when I was contacted by the PR people at Urban Outfitters, inviting me to a press event to showcase their latest A/W collection. Originally it was just a London thing but when I said I lived hundreds of miles away they sorted it out so I could go along to my local Manchester store for the same treatment. I don't attend many press things because everything seems to happen in the capital, so this made a really welcomed change.

I was shown around the whole menswear department, located on the large open plan top floor and mezzanine. I've been in here tones of times but lately the whole layout and brand selection seems much more consider. Currently you are led in with the new Levi's Monochrome collection which features some of the brand's most popular fits in a more stripped back and clean finishes. All displayed on the painter's style benches, nice touch. Behind the denim led in what Urban Outfitter's in-house brand, Store Leave. Apparently their collection has been met with warm reception, all built around menswear basics.

The premium brands area was really strong, with UO favourites YMC, Garbstore and Libertine Libertine now sitting along side Canadian basics by Wings & Horns and this season's new comer Evisu. I was anxious to try the denim / check shirt by Garbstore but the fit really wasn't working for me.

Trainers have taken a backseat in the store (cos we're up north and it's always soggy out) as this seaon's emphasis is on all things sensible. Nothing out the ordinary here, the footwear is always stronger online as Manchester is seen more as a sports city, so they doesn't get a massive selection. The Store Leave brogues on the right here as light as a feather.

I was really impressed with the shear amount of accessories on the go, 5 panel caps with mixed with the usual winter woolies and backpack. This place always makes me want to get my Lomo out to, anyone else get that?

Cheap Monday was merched along side Dr. Denim, outerwear by Patagonia, Lee and Edwin. Definitely one of my favs, Edwin had some really nice heavy weight chinos and knits on offer. I was pretty taken by the navy and off-white baseball cardigan. This was also the first time I'd seen Carharrt's new "Work in Progress" branding. The chunky grey swing tag looked pretty cool against the brushed check and leather pocket logo.

Patches on anything with an elbow

Suit, the brand that's really getting about at the mo seemed to be doing some nice things. It's best described as a mixture of Nigel Cabourn and Albam but on a tighter budget. The outerwear was by far the strongest, with tweeds, wax cottons and flannel checks all mix together to make some cracking "Camerman" style jackets. Jumbo cords were also doing the rounds here, along side heavyweight knits, oxford shirts in the classic colours and sweatshirts. They seems to be having the most fun with the styling down on the mezzanine too, which was nice to see. The dickie was quite charming really.

At the other end of the store they side together the more Heritage/Collegiate brands like Fred Perry, Farah Vintage, Penguin, Lyle & Scott and Franklin & Marshall. These brands usually pass me by but Fred Perry and Farah had some really interesting stuff going on, I noted a couple of washed-outs sweats, cotton/jersey oxford shirts, heavy wool trousers and low key branding on lambwool jumpers and scarfs.

Apart from the renewal section and music/book section that's your lot. I'd just like to thank the Urban Outfitters Manchester menswear team for showing around and making me feel so welcome. They did let me take a couple of bits a bobs with me, including a Store Leave wool blazers and a backpack but I'll whack that in a separate post.

Balloon Invitation

I wanted to share will you an invitation I designed for my Final Campaign at uni, a few months ago. For the people who haven't been reading the blog for too long my concept was to launch a homeware store aimed at men. This was on behalf of menswear store Oi Polloi. Featured here is the design for the store launch night invite. The idea was to get people hands on with the brand straight away. Inflate the balloon, give it a pop with the pin provided which then reveals further details of the launch night.

Now this wasn't an entirely original idea, I took the concept from the uber talented crafts extraordinaire Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Days. Anyone that's into crafts, diys, simple presentation or clever design ideas then this is the site for you. She also does the most amazing job of reconditioning furniture and other tire looking items. There doesn't seem to be an end the this ladies talents.

I think I made a pretty good job of it anyway, hopefully I can transfer these skills I've learnt into a real job soon. Anyone want me?

125 Years of Coca Cola with Jack Spade

Jack Spade have got together with Coca-Cola to celebrate 125 of the sweet sweet fizzy stuff. There's something about real Coca-Cola that evokes the good ol' times. It pretty much tastes the best as well as always seeming to look pretty cool in those little glass bottles on the shelf. Anyways, Jack Spade (who I've previously blogged about) were given free reign to dip into Cola's old slogans catalog and design the designs on their own products.

All the products use original slogans and patterns, ranging from "Ice Cold Sunshine"1932, "I'd like to buy the world a Coke"1971 to the interlocking "Cs" on the baseball cap which was originally used on official merchandise around 1910. Each item is on a pretty limited basis, with between 150 and 300 of each. As a rule I'm generally not into slogans, I usually think people look right wazzocks in them but I can properly get on board with some nostalgic ones like this.

So go on, which do you prefer, Coca-Cola or Pepsi?

Now, these are some pretty cool things I must admit. Snazzy enough for me to pick them out but the main reason behind this post is to show you just how slick the store images look. It sure worked on me because I want it all. The products are all taken from (from what I can gather) this brand spanking new store called Togs & Clogs, based in Manchester, UK. The whole site is just really well done , with oodles of categories and an expanding Lifestyle section. For all you chaps (I'm pretty sure most of the girls will like it all too) who are into vintage bikes, watches, clothing, well designed stationary and well chosen Blues music I urge you to check it out. Now this is all I know about the store, annoying they don't have a physical store as yet, I can only hope. If it's as good as this then I'm sure to have very empty pockets.

Well that's part two under our every expanding belt (mine's gone up one notch since I ate my way out of the country). Fact or Crap, come on, genius stuff right there.

Being a Gentleman with Aramis

Recently myself and 5 other male bloggers were approached by New York based fragrance brand Aramis about an exciting new project. The brief was to create original content about how we each celebrate the act of being "Gentlemanly" and what it means to us. I was really excited to be involved right from the start, as the brand evokes fond childhood memories for me.

As I was growing up the only strong male role model in my life was my Grandad. His family were Israeli immigrants who set up a tailoring company in the East End of London and this is where my Grandad trained to be a tailor. Somewhere in between this and serving in the army he became a footballer, retired early and then became a factory manager, in my hometown of Blackpool. He was an extremely compassionate man who was charming, impeccably well mannered and a joy to spend time with. One of his chosen aftershaves was Aramis, every time I hugged him I got a whiff of the infamous "peppery & potent" scent. I remember trying to squeeze him as tight as I could because it made me feel safe and loved. For me, these values and personality traits embodied what it means to be a gent.

Each blogger was asked to come up with an original idea about what the word Gentleman means to them. For me, being a Gentleman isn't just about being courteous and well dressed, it's your attitude towards people and life in general. My concept was to create short mantras about how we subconsciously live our lives, accompanied with a photoshoot of my day-to-day life. Here's what I came up with...

I'm really excited to see what the other 5 bloggers come up with, as I'm in good company. The Dandy Project, Kate Loves Me, Impossible Cool, Guerreisms and Man of the Cloth are all coming up with their own original Gentlemanly concepts. Feel free to check them out.

The Aramis fragrance itself is extremely elegant whilst at the same time being masculine and powerful. If you asked me 10 years ago if I'd wear a fragrance like Aramis the answer would have probably been no, but as with many things in life I have matured and so have my tastes. They have become more refined and considered, which is reflected in my own personal style. So here's to the "peppery & potent" scent of Aramis and all things Gentlemanly!

I'm off to Orlando in the small hours of tomorrow morning. We've had it booked for absolutely yonks but the time has come to stuff my face with corn muffins, glazed donuts, M&M's, Mountain Dew, Budwiser and stuff with bacon and cheese on it.

I'll be away for 2 weeks so apart from a scheduled post here and there things will be all quiet on the blog. Remember you can follow me on Twitter for the occasional update on what we're getting up to. Hopefully going to make it up to St. Augustine and maybe Tampa too, which sounds pretty exciting

As I got a really good reaction to the illustrations I did a few weeks go (thanks so much for that btw, it made me feel 10 times better about them) I decided to try something slightly different. Instead of concentrating on looks I'm inspired by personally I decided to illustrate someone who I find really interesting and who has a really individual sense of personal style.

I chose MJ from Dreaming Spires and I just hope she likes it! It's a little bit different from the last, with the laces on the boots and scarf both getting slightly more detail. I can't decide if I like it this way or like the previous more simplified version but it was fun to play around with the technique none the less.

Her pale skin, red hair and lipstick seemed to have come out really well. What do you think, can you tell it's her?

Terrace Fields are nothing I claim to know about but I saw one featured on The Cool Hunter and decided to see if I could find any more images on them. They make for pretty incredible viewing, just imagine seeing an are like this in person though. I'm imagining myself to be totally blown and and most likely pretty speechless, but those are the thing we remember in life. Machu Picchu is one of the places I most like to visit in the world.

It's been a super busy week for me, my hours at work stepped up to full time as well as juggling my other job and working on another exciting project (watch this space). So I'm sorry if I've become a bit slow at replying to comments and stuff, I will get there.

Thanks to everyone who has ever read my blog and enjoyed it, I'm really happy the way this blog has grown and I'm just glad I can share things I'm genuinely enthusiastic about. it's just a pleasure that you guys like it too. Two thumbs up for all of you.

Well this is a first, the lovely Katie from TattyBoots recently did a post on some illustrations she did of bloggers with "Jazzy Feet" and I was included. The image she chose to do was this one. I'm really chuffed that someone has taken the time out to do something which is linked to me so thanks Katie. Please do check out her blog, it's really interesting and creative, about how her style evolves and more snazzy illustrations like this.

In other news I'm off to Orlando in two weeks time, has anyone got any unusual recommendations of things to do/places to visit? Also if anyone has been to any vintage clothing/home stores please let me know.

Ghost Signs

Advertising has certain come along way, it's all flashy, high tech, 4-D and in your face these days but I love it. I'm pretty obsessed with anything to do with marketing and ever since my trip to Glasgow a couple of months ago I have made a point of looking up wherever I go. I've started to notice lots of Art Deco architecture in my home town of Blackpool and a whole mish-mash of styles in Manchester. Another thing you come across every so often are Ghost Signs, old advertising that is no longer in use and faded dramatically. Commonly found on the side of building, these hand-painted signs were the height of cool up till the 1960s but as times moved on so did technology. You can find these pretty much anywhere, if you look for them.

It's sad to see them fade away, taking memories of defunct businesses with them but with all this super modern multimedia advertising it's only a matter of time before a company rebels. I'll bet someone does the opposite and brings it back. You know what they say, what goes around comes around.

Looks Illustrated

I've been looking through a ton of lookbooks for the next couple of seasons, to see what I'd like to get my hands on. Mostly it's the the mid-range sort of stuff I tend to lean towards, because it's more attainable than the catwalk stuff and superior in craftsmanship and detail to a lot of the high street stuff. So I decided to illustrate some of my fav looks instead of just sticking photos up, makes it a bit more interesting I reckon.

I'm pretty into the end results actually, super simple and striped down to just colour and shape. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these pieces filter into the shops over the next few months, roll on A/W!

Golden Ratio & Friends

Finding stylist, photographer and all round creative bod Carl Kleiner couldn't have come at a better time. Yesterday I was wearing a waterproof jacket and hiking boots, I got soaked at approximately 2pm and still hadn't dried out when I eventually got back home in the early hours of this morning. I know British summers are notoriously sporadic and "average" but this takes the biscuit. A couple of good things that came out of it though were that it seemed to put a lot of the rioters off venturing outside and I also had ttime to browse for some inspiration.

If Kleiner's clever and playful work doesn't cheer you up on days like these I don't know what will. The projects featured here are "Golden Ratio & Friends", which was created simply by folding various types of paper. The second, "Cafe M - Beirut" is just what we all tried as kids, sticking fruit together to make faces! The Swedish photographer works closely with stylish Evelina Bratell. Together they produced the super popular Ikea cookbook Homemade is Best, which was all over the web a while back.

A couple of details from my outfit this Saturday, nothing too fancy but the sort of stuff I feel really comfortable in. 3 1/2 years down the line and my Clarks boots are still looking tip top, though they are shocking in the rain, I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been coming across quite a few new blogs at the moment, mostly male orientated and mostly none-fashion based. I'd probably say they concentrate on stuff they're into, be it clothing, travel or film. Then I got to thinking why they seemed so appealing to me. I guess it's cos they're have a similar concept to mine, makes sense right?

The one that springs to mind is Stitched & Stitched, which is where I first saw this Wooden Molecule Building Set. I'm pretty sure the fella that runs the blog won't mind me "re-blogging" this great little set because we're both just sharing things we like. Our tastes just happen to be quite similar. This set would look pretty sweet on my desk, the fact that you create it yourself and just change it whenever you get bored makes it even more appealing.

Do you find you read blogs similar to your own or do you look for something totally different?

Messing With Dali

Well that's another famous painting defaced, and boy did it take a while. For the people who have been following my blog for a while you may remember me doing similar to the Mona Lisa. But for all that haven't, this is something I've been working on and off with for a few months. As Salvador Dali is my favourite artist I decided to have a go at illustrating his infamous 1931 jobby, "The Persistence of Memory". I did my version using Illustrator.

So that's another one down, what do you think? I'm sure some people will thing, meh and not original ect but at least I enjoyed doing it. Any feedback is more than welcome.

I have quite a bit of spare time at the moment so I'm finally getting round to looking through the dusty pile-o-books in the corner of my room. It's been a while since I did a post on architecture so I thought I'd share some of my favourites which featured in a book Hollie bought me for Christmas. I've tired to pick out a few that aren't as commonly know, as well as me not knowing them before I flicked through this mountainous book.

I don't really have a strict criteria but I'm usually attracted to harsh, angled, shapely, just something a bit different I guess. All failing that anything in a Brutalist style I'm bound to like, the Barbican Estate being a perfect example for all you London folk. The last one may seem a bit of a weird choice but I wanted to include it as I went to uni in Preston and I'm pretty certain 99% of the people there don't realise how cool their bus station is!

I'm also working on an illustration at the moment, it's been a while since I did one so it feels great getting stuck in. In fact it was probably early last year. I'll post it once it's finished, nearly there.

Unoccupied

Some recent photographs from a spare of the moment bit of Urban Exploration. Driving from a country pub yesterday we spotted this little abandoned building in the middle of a field. Sadly I didn't have my SLR on my, just a basic one had to do. The gas station in the first image had a really nice story to it, the pub we visited an a photograph of the staff dating back from 1909. It's fair to say the area is pretty sleepy so it can't get much business nowadays but it was quite a site. As I thought, there is no info on what this building was used for and when it was occupied last.

The area between my town and the next city is like a huge maze, roads connecting to unnamed roads, canals, county pubs and quite a lot of swanky house. You wouldn't think it living in Blackpool but I live 15 minutes from all of this.

I decided to wear my new Peter Jensen Union Jack waterproof jacket as it looked like rain, probably wasn't the most practical option for climbing around derelict spaces.

Marshall Artists A/W 2011

Today's offering follows on from the last A/W 2011 post, this time it's UK based Marshall Artists. The collection is a balanced mix of relaxed tailoring and everyday clothing. Focusing on fairly simple pieces including chambray and check shirts, striped t-shirts and sweatshirts up top and slim/tapered fitting cords (hooray for cord!) camo and denim.

The extensive collection is finished off really nicely with a selection of outerwear, which to me is what the brand seems to be strongest at. The orange parka is the favourite piece but prison-striped navy and cream version sure would be a talking point. There's a bunch of small details too with the leg opening button on the trousers to allow you to wear them two ways and a multitude of pockets for all your odds and sods.

Being picky but I would have probably liked to have seen a few more colours in the collection but that's just me. As always for more deets on the brand click here.

If you are finding the blog a bit lookbook heavy at the moment it's just because I'm trying to bring to you things I am genuinely interested in, as I have always done. I like to try and let you into my life a bit and it just so happens that this is what I've been looking at, I'll get some arty stuff up soon too.

Scotch & Soda A/W 2011

Every day I browse the net looking for interesting and nice things. I do this like the rest of us, because I enjoy it and to kill some time (especially when the summer weather has taken a turn for the worst now, seriously wet in the north). I take a look at my many bookmarks in clothing, footwear, homeware, some arty stuff and the daily news. Other than social networks that's pretty much it, so when I saw a link to a menswear collection from Charlotte I naturally gave it a click.

I was hit with the A/W collection from Scotch & Soda, a brand that I've heard of for a a while but one that tends to pass me by like a lot of them. I was pleasantly surprised by their latest lookbook, in fact I liked it all, the styling, photography and just the general feel. It's clear to see what they were aiming at and it sends a strong message of manliness, active lifestyle, intelligence and playfulness.

The collection revolves around denim, with plenty of heavyweight outerwear, layering and accessories in carefully chosen fabrics and colours. There's not much more too it, it's all pretty un-fussy and easily thrown together. It wouldn't look like this on everyone though, if I got my hands on the collection I wouldn't look as manly but I can sure give it a go. My personal favourite look is the first image, add that with the wicked bike and you're on to a winner. I'm getting more into ties at the moment and the pattern on this is instantly reminds me of Paul Smith and his love of cycling.

The Graduate

I did it, I am know officially a BA (Honors) Graduate of University of Central Lancashire. What a day too, there was a mixture of nerves, excitement and worry (that I may fall off the stages or my hat would fall off). I had these trousers tailored by my main man, he made the legs slimmers, took in the seat and shortened them quite a bit. He called them an "Elvis fit", just the way I wanted them.

The last 4 years has been some of the best in my life and I have met tones of amazing people, who I hope to keep in contact with. But now, no more messing, I'm not a student anymore. I need a job, big time!

Here's to the future and the next chapter in my life!

Glasgow: Part 2 via Edinburgh

Right, this is the final part of our Scotland trip. We jumped on a train from Glasgow Central and arrived in Edinburgh just over an hour later.

When we got there the first thing to do was figure out how you navigate the place. It's the only city I've been to where there's a uber old castle overlooking the highstreet, very charming stuff.

The plan was to have a nosey around some shops and grab something to eat before we tackled a tour of the castle. This was my idea and a massive mistake, we we're knackered by the time we walked up what seemed like a perpectual hill which led to the castle

Pretty amazing looking fountain in the park, which surrounded the lower part of the castle. We chilled out here for a bit with an iced coffee

The way up to the main event was a total tourist trap, this t-shirt certainly grabbed my attention

View from the top. Edinburgh is by far the most beautiful looking city I have ever been to, most of the places I've visited tend to be more on the modern side. It made for a great change. Shame we missed the annual Tattoo

It was quite a weird feeling looking through this vantage point, it was hard not to think about what would have happened here in the past. This was one of my highlights actually, this places really does have history coming out of its ears

The business end of Mons Meg

The best view in town, you could see right down onto the highstreet which we stood on about 3 hours previous (Zoom in to see the detail)

The city was riddled with history and I only wish we had more time to explore and soak up the sights. The plan was to go to the the Grassmarket after the castle but we were so knackered we just ended up going for a pizza and beer. All in all it was one of my favourite days in a long time. Glasgow and Edinburgh couldn't be more different, both great but in very different ways.

In other news, the end of uni is upon us. I graduate this Friday, big day so I'm told!

Glasgow: Part 1

We didn't do much shopping but we weren't going to miss a chance to visit COS, saw this statue on our way there. Anyone know anything about this?

One of my highlights, I trip to Kelvingrove Museum located in the West End. This sign intrigued me, everything exhibited goes past this point!

Really cool installation, a series of floating heads dangled from the ceiling in the main hall. Again I didn't find out much about this but Hollie was fascinated by it

Kelvingrove Museum was a kids dream, animals, spitfires, machinery, you name it this place had it. If I ever go back to Glasgow I will devote more time to this place. They even had a Dali

Comfy shoes and a sensible jacket is clever attire in Scotland

My first Bearbick, I didn't get it at first but I can see why people get obsessed with them. We bought a few at streetwear and art store, Fat Budda. The staff were excellent here, so enthusiastic about their stock and had time to chat for at least 15 minutes.

Well there we go, that's Glasgow Part 1. We only went for 3 days but I already want to go back and explore all over again. It's only 3 hours away from were I live and if you're savvy you can get some really cheap trains so it's defiantly on the cards for the future. So does anyone know what any of these places are that I mentioned and has anyone else been to Glasgow? I'm all ears.

Working With Patterns

Wearing - Gap navy polka dot shirt & chinos, Penfield red backpack, Converse, Muji watch, Ray Ban

I've been trying to experiment with different patterns and prints of late, well in my head a least. After ogling the Pitti images on various websites and blogs it became pretty clear that I need to try out more interesting prints other than the safety net of checks and stripes. It's not that I don't see any but the stuff I usually see isn't anywhere near my budget. So when I saw this polka dot shirt in Gap last week it was pretty obvious that I had to have it. I picked it up in Glasgow whilst we were there last week in the sale so I can't complain. I'm currently looking at this fella for inspiration, although I do have super beard envy.

In other news I got a new tattoo a couple of weeks ago, an anchor on the inside of my upper arm, I'm sure it will crop up on here sooner or later. Also I'm also officially job hunting so if anyone reading this looking for a hard working creative chat, I'm your man.

Inspiration - James Joyce

Bright colours, check. Surreal-ness, check, Typography, check. Humour, check. This has to be a winning formula right? All these things make my life very enjoyable and for an artist to use them is totally up my street. London based artist James Joyce takes all these elements, jumbles them up and it comes looking like a whole ball of crazy.

This style of illustration would look pretty brilliant in my room I must say, it sure cheered my rather snoozy Sunday up.

Glasgow: CitizenM

Here's where we stayed in Glasgow, CitizenM. A 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central

First thing you see when you walk in is this awesome staircase

The lobby was like no other, super modern but in a really fun and clever way

This had to be our favourite area to chill out, it made me want an Eames Lounge chair

We were surrounded by design books, it's like they had a look at our Amazon wishlist before we came

Really liked this chair, I have no idea who it's by but it was dreadfully uncomfortable

In celebration of graduating me and Hollie planned to go away for a few days. We wanted to go somewhere affordable but far enough away for it to feel like a proper break. In the end I found CitizenM (the M standing for "Mobile") on Late Rooms, which had some great reviews and it looked like nowhere we have stayed before. We were not disappointed.

The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central and is aimed a singles or couples wanting an affordable and modern place to stay. It was more than just that though, with amazing lounging areas, interesting decor, enthusiastic and helpful staff and lots of other small touches and quirks, it really was the most fun hotel I've ever stayed at.

The hotel falls into the medium sized bracket with 198 rooms, a large lounge and super slick bar/breakfast area. Each room features a gigantic bed which perfectly fits the width (for a 6"1 man this is rare to find in an affordable hotel) and everything was controlled by remote, the lightening, blinds, TV, alarm you name it. One of the best features was that you could change the colour of the lighting to suit your mood, it made me feel like I was in some super modern hotel in Japan. Sadly I didn't take any decent images of the rooms but check out Hollie's post for more. The lounge area was by far my favourite bit, with floor to ceiling bookshelves and windows, it couldn't be more relaxing.

If you're ever looking for somewhere interesting but affordable to stay I would highly recommend CitizenM.

The Next Chapter

It's fun to be a tourist in your own town. This is me celebrating it up big style, I finished uni with a 2:1, so now I'm officially a Bachelor of Arts. Thanks everyone for your constant support.

Graduation Treat

In the end I decided on the Comme des Garcons wallet in this vibrant blue colour. My original choice was the tri-coloured version but when it arrived I really wasn't happy with the quality of the leather, it was almost paper thin which wouldn't be durable at all. A Twitter convo with Phil Oh from Street Peeper swung my decision. That's not what I want from a wallet, I want to be able to toss it in my bag or pocket and not have to worry about it.

The real bonus behind the purchase is that I won a £50 gift voucher for End on their Facebook so I only had to put a couple of quid towards it, winner!

It's the big day on Friday, results day. I have mixed feelings about what's going to happen but wish me luck.

Following on from my post last week on Ava's Menswear last week, where I mentioned that I have had an article published, well feast you eyes because here it is. The article features in Ava's Fashion Design 08: Styling. Both myself and Clare were asked to take part in a short interview on the subject of blogging, which seems even more relevant now as it did at the time. At a guess it was about a year 1/2 ago.

I have to say it's given me the biggest buzz to see something with my name on it actually published in that is on sale, my mum will be proud!

Unexplained Black & White Photographs

I have no idea what is going on in these photos, but nobody else does either. These images are a part of a list of "50 Unexplained Black & White Photographs", which I have had bookmarked for some time. It's the kind of list that gets passed around and shared a lot but for all the people that may not have stumbled across it I thought I'd share it with you. Here's some of my favourites.

I like that fact I don't really have a clue at what I'm looking at or what events followed. It doesn't really matter, that's where our imagination comes in. It's ingrained within us all to be curious about life and the unknown, I guess that is why we look back at our childhood with such fond memories. I guess I would like to know about who the people are and why they're doing what they're doing but for now it's up to us to make our own minds up.
